Harris concentrates his practice in commercial litigation, including contract, real estate, intellectual property, employment, administrative and financial disputes. Harris also advises corporations, LLCs and partnerships on risk management and governance, negotiates leases and contracts, and enforces trademarks and copyrights.
Harris has over 29 years of trial, appellate and administrative experience in state and federal courts in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He clerked for Rhode Island Supreme Court and federal court judges and was Deputy Counsel to the Governor and Executive Counsel for Transportation. He practiced at major Providence and Boston commercial firms prior to joining Salter McGowan Sylvia & Leonard, Inc. in 2009.
Harris received the Rhode Island Bar Association’s Pro Bono Publico Award and its Bar Journal Writing Award for his article on Eminent Domain Law. For the past 10 years, he has been selected as one of the top business litigators in Rhode Island by Super Lawyers® based on peer evaluation and an independent review of his professional achievements. Additionally, he received Martindale Hubbell’s highest AV® peer rating for legal ability and ethical standards. His 35 reported cases range from professional liability, condemnation and construction to easements and titles, mortgages, public contracts and non–competes.
A Bowdoin College graduate, Harris earned an MBA from Bryant College and his law degree from Washington University in St. Louis. Harris is Counsel to the Rhode Island Senate Minority Leader. He also teaches contracts, real estate, and evidence law, coaches mock trial and writes for a local history journal.
